Makeup Guide- Spring 2020 Learn to Skate

Learn to Skate Makeup Guide

We are pleased to announce resumption of our spring classes, which like so many other facets of life, were interrupted by COVID-19.

Our return to the ice will be accompanied by many changes. Social distancing, face coverings and capacity guidelines are in place along with additional protocols outlined in our Safety at Center Ice document. We ask each of you to read Safety at Center Ice, located on our COVID-19 Health and Safety Page, in order to familiarize yourselves with how the Greensboro Ice House is operating within the COVID environment.

In addition to the information relayed in the Safety at Center Ice document, we wish to further elaborate on the specifics of the resumption of Learn to Skate classes.

Please review all the contents of this page, and then scroll to the bottom to register.

Dates and Schedule

The 8-week spring session began Tuesday, March 3rd and Saturday, March 7th. The rink closed due to the Covid pandemic as of March 14th. Prior to the Stay Home order, Tuesday class participants were able to take two classes, March 3rd and March 10th, and are therefore owed 6 make-up classes and Saturday class participants were able to take one class (March 7th) and are therefore owed 7 make-up classes.

We hope our spring participants are able to make-up at least some of the missed classes within the make-up weeks offered. We will issue a credit for any make-up classes not taken for participants to apply toward future semesters. Participants may choose to complete all of their classes in just a week or two or participants may elect to spread them out across the make-up weeks offered.

Make-up classes are available beginning Tuesday, August 18th through Saturday, September 26th. Please see the SignUp Genius link at the bottom of this page for specific class dates and times.

Participants will use SignUpGenius to register for their classes. SignUpGenius is being utilized in order to ensure that participation stays within the cap of 25 skaters.  Registration is awarded on a first-come, first served basis. We request you cancel any reservations as soon as you know you’re unable to attend, but at minimum 24 hours in advance, so the spot can be used by another skater.

We reserve the right to cancel classes with low participation.

Class Structure

Classes will be conducted in a Workshop type manner. Skaters will be placed in small groups of similarly skilled students and coaches will float among students to provide instruction. Coaches will maintain distancing protocols between participants and between participants and themselves.

Participants may utilize the 30 minutes following class time as independent practice.

This practice ice session will be supervised by a member of our coaching team. Basic 1, Snowplow 1-4, Hockey 1-4 and Adult 1-3 did not have a practice ice option within our spring class schedule. However, we will offer these skaters the opportunity to practice immediately following class provided they are able to skate independently and without assistance.

If a coach or staff member determines that a Basic 1, Snowplow 1-4, Hockey 1-4 and/or Adult 1-3 participant is unable to skate independently and without assistance during the practice time, this benefit will be revoked. All skaters must observe distancing guidelines while independently practicing.

Check-in protocol

Health Screening and Temperature Check

All participants will enter the arena through the main / front door entrance, wearing a face covering over the mouth and nose.

Participants are encouraged to arrive early to ensure sufficient time for health screen and temperature check prior to the start of classes.

Participants may not bring personal items, including skate bags, into the arena.

Participants must pass a health screen and temperature check to be admitted into the building. Participants must wear their face mask/face covering during their health screening.

Any temperature reading between 99.4 and 100.3 will require a second check. If the second reading still falls within this range, the participant will be ineligible for class on that day.

Any reading 100.4 or higher is an automatic no-go for class that day. Participants showing any signs of illness or having any contact with anyone diagnosed with COVID-19 are asked to stay home.

All Greensboro Ice House staff and coaches are also required to submit to a health screen and temperature check and to wear a face covering over mouth and nose at all times.
